Optical type detectors respond to visible smoke particles. They operate on the principle of light reflection from smoke particles entering the detector chamber. An infrared LED illuminates the space in front of it, through which air flows. When smoke particles enter, the light is reflected and scattered throughout the chamber, where it is detected by a phototransistor, which then triggers the alarm.
