Combined detectors can detect dangerous concentrations of several different gases. Typically, this involves a combination of explosive gases and CO (carbon monoxide), which is produced by incomplete combustion. Combined gas and CO detectors are therefore useful wherever flammable gases are burned, such as in households with gas appliances, as well as in garages, industry, or boiler rooms.
Combined detectors detect dangerous concentrations of selected gases in enclosed spaces and provide timely warnings of danger. They are an important safety feature both at home and in workplaces. Installing combined gas and CO detectors can prevent poisoning, explosions, and fires. Smaller domestic combined gas and CO detectors are mainly used in homes or cottages where there is a gas boiler or stove. All gas appliances pose a risk of flammable gas leaks as well as the formation of toxic carbon monoxide. The most common causes are improper handling of appliances, a blocked chimney, neglected inspections, or insufficient oxygen supply to the flame. The warning signals of combined detectors can be both visual and audible. For industrial use, a multi-stage signal can be chosen to grade the level of risk. Industrial combined gas and CO detectors can also be connected to ventilation systems, which automatically activate and ventilate the contaminated area when dangerous gas concentrations increase.
