Smart Underfloor Heating Danfoss Icon

Individual zone controls often only address radiator heating, where you mount a head on each radiator that then opens and closes as needed for heat. However, the modern approach to heating tends towards underfloor or ceiling heating. Radiators take up space in a room. Underfloor heating saves space in the room and evenly distributes heat throughout the room. The Danfoss Icon™ system ensures correct and smart regulation, which you won't even notice.

Danfoss Icon is a smart heating system for underfloor heating. It ensures maximum comfort, offers a simple solution, and is suitable for both smaller households and larger homes or apartments. The smart heating Danfoss Icon minimizes heat loss and saves heating costs, and it also includes internet-based heating control. In the case of combined heating, Danfoss Icon can be easily connected with Danfoss Ally, giving you full control over both radiator and hydronic underfloor heating from a single application.

Zone Control for Hydronic Underfloor Heating

With traditional thermostats, you can set the desired temperature. With better thermostats, you can set a daily or weekly program, and the thermostat will turn on the heating according to your wishes. A smart WiFi thermostat can communicate with your phone or recognize that you are approaching home and start heating. Danfoss Icon goes a step further and combines a smart thermostat with zone control. Each room in the house or apartment has different heat losses. Some rooms may feel cold, while others may be overheated. Zone control offers a solution: divide rooms into individual zones as needed. Then, set the correct temperature for each zone on the thermostat, and the smart heating system will take care of everything else.

How to Implement Smart Underfloor Heating?

The Danfoss Icon underfloor heating control includes all necessary components, and their installation is simple and convenient. To get started, you need a control regulator, application module, the appropriate number of thermostats, thermal actuators, and any expansion modules for more convenient control.

Regulators operate at 24 V and are available in two versions: with 10 or 15 outputs for thermal actuators. Thermal actuators are installed on each underfloor heating circuit and are connected to the regulator via wires. Thermostats can be connected in two ways. The first is wired, where the regulator is connected to the thermostat using a cable. For the second - wireless connection, wireless versions of thermostats and a radio module ensuring wireless communication between the thermostat and the control regulator are needed.

The master control regulator provides several advanced features, which can be further expanded with an expansion module. You can then choose from 10 predefined settings for common applications, covering the behaviour of all inputs and outputs from the control regulator. The expansion module allows you to use Danfoss Icon in applications where a combination of heating and cooling is used.

The Danfoss Icon control regulator features automatic balancing, pump switching, boiler switching, test function, and PWM regulation. Last but not least, the regulator can learn on its own. This means it recognizes how quickly your system heats up and turns on the heating earlier or later as needed to ensure the exact comfort temperature in each zone.

Perfect Design

Danfoss Icon room thermostats are designed to match any interior. The thermostat does not stand out because it fits into the frame of a standard switch. The frames are interchangeable - you can use frames from different manufacturers and design Danfoss Icon to blend in with your interior's colour scheme.

After a period of inactivity, the display backlight turns off, making the thermostat almost invisible. When touched, the display lights up again and shows the current room temperature. The Icon thermostat fits into an electrical box. The wall-mounted version is ideal if you don't have preparation for recessed electrical boxes in the wall. With only 25 mm depth and a frame of 86 x 86 mm, the wall version is no more prominent than a standard switch or socket.

Convenient Control of Underfloor Heating from Anywhere

It's unpleasant to return home from a skiing holiday and find that the heating is off. Turning on the heating in time or checking the current temperature in the house from anywhere is a common comfort today. The Icon App application module provides mobile heating control. The module is inserted into the control regulator and connected to the home WiFi network. You then just install the app on your phone and can control the entire system from anywhere.

Besides the already mentioned application module, you can pair the Danfoss Icon heating system with ZigBee products from other manufacturers using the ZigBee module, and control them using smart home applications on your smartphone or tablet.
