The default operating mode is PWM + including the function of automatic balancing.
The secondary operating mode is On/Off (hysteresis controller), which is preferred by some markets. The hysteresis value is not fixed, but instead is defined by the thermostat's registration time, typically 0.2-0.5°C will be the resulting hysteresis.
Activating the optimization function for the heat pump prompts the system to extend the heat demand by distributing/balancing heating periods. Additionally, the last circuit with a heat demand remains open so that the heat pump can dissipate heat while operating. If there is no heat demand from any room in the system, the heat demand signal will be deactivated. Lastly, to ensure that the heat pump compressor does not turn on immediately after shutting down, a delay is activated that postpones the compressor activation by 15 minutes.
It is recommended that systems be designed to achieve a minimum run time of approximately 6 minutes under all conditions to prevent performance degradation of the heat pump due to short cycling.
The main control unit Danfoss Icon2 can be used with thermal actuators, either normally closed (NC – most common) or normally open (NO – rarely used). Supported actuator outputs are 1.0 -> 2.5 W per output terminal.
Always connect only one actuator to the output terminal. Outputs can be individually configured to match either NC or NO actuators.
Each output can be adapted to the heat emitter it controls (affecting the PWM period and PI constants within the controller/algorithm)
• For normal wet floor construction (pipes cast in concrete), choose: "Slow"
• For dry floor construction (pipes laid on heat distribution panels), choose: "Medium"
• For radiators or convectors fed from a manifold, choose: "Fast"
The main control regulator Danfoss Icon2 has a dedicated 230 V output, allowing easy installation directly into the circulation pump. The pump output (marked PWR1) can handle outputs up to 100W. The pump output has an optional 3-minute delayed activation, allowing actuators to open. This setting can be changed in the commissioning app.
The "boiler" relay of the Danfoss Icon2 control regulator can be used to activate the heat source when one of the assigned room thermostats requests heat. The output is marked as RELAY and can operate with an NC or NO signal to the heat source. The output has an optional 3-minute delayed activation, allowing actuators to start. This setting can be changed in the commissioning app.
