With record energy prices, many people are considering how to save on heating while ensuring thermal comfort at home. The answer to this question is offered by zoned heating control. What is zoned heating control, how does it work, and what are its advantages?
Zoned heating control is a system that allows you to regulate heating and heat only in the rooms where you need it. Thanks to zoned control, you can achieve the desired temperature in individual rooms of your house or apartment, ensuring not only a pleasant temperature according to your preferences but also saving on heating costs.
If, for example, you have five rooms in your house and all are individually heated, choose a heating control system with five zones. Zoned systems are suitable for all types of local heating. They are used in family homes with gas, electric, or solid fuel boilers, with heat pumps or photovoltaics. Zoned heating control is also suitable for underfloor heating in houses.
The foundation of zoned systems is central units, which control all other devices. The entire zoned system is configured in the control unit. The control unit often features a digital display, where you can set the number of zones the system should manage, as well as time and temperature programs for individual zones. More modern zoned controls have moved away from the central unit, with all settings done directly via a mobile app. Other important components include smart thermostatic radiator valves and relay switching units.
Other elements of zoned control in the case of underfloor heating may include:
room or floor temperature sensors,
zoned floor controller,
external antenna or other radio module,
application module,
and thermoelectric actuators.
Zoned heating systems for houses can be divided into wired zoned systems and wireless zoned systems.
In the case of wired systems, the individual components are connected by wire, and the control unit is installed permanently. Wireless zoned systems use wireless communication technology, most commonly via the home WiFi network. The control unit is portable. There are also hybrid variants combining both.
Choose the temperature for each room separately. In the bedroom, 16 °C is sufficient.
Even zoned heating control can feature many smart functions. Such devices, in the form of smart wireless thermostats or thermostatic valves, can be easily controlled by phone via mobile apps. In the app, you can set the desired temperature or, for example, turn the heating off or on. And you can do this anytime and from anywhere. Smart heating can also be controlled using a voice assistant or smart home system.
As we hinted at the beginning, the undeniable advantage of zoned heating control is energy savings, and thus money savings. Thanks to multi-zone heating, there is no unnecessary overheating because heating is not done in rooms that are not used daily or do not require room temperature. This includes, for example, the bedroom, hallway, or utility room. By adjusting the desired temperature for each room separately, you can save up to 30% on heating costs.
In addition, zoned control offers a very comfortable solution for heating homes and apartments, thanks to the ability to control and set the current temperature in individual rooms. You can comfortably set a higher temperature in the living room, where you relax in the evening, and at the same time a lower one in the bedroom, where a temperature of only 16 °C is recommended for healthy sleep.
On our e-shop, you will find affordable smart heating sets, which allow you to control the temperature at your home from anywhere using your phone. For zoned heating control of family homes, apartments, offices, or other commercial spaces, the Siemens Connected Home L-12 radiator set is designed, allowing you to regulate up to 12 independent zones using various time programs for heating.
Moreover, the smart software calculates the optimal heating parameters based on your preferences and measured data. The Siemens Connected Home system is suitable for radiator heating and can be controlled remotely via a mobile app.
If you want the zoned heating control system to work exactly as it should, you should always entrust its installation to professionals, as the installation requires advanced technical knowledge.
After the expert connects the central control unit and links it with other elements of the zoned heating control, the system setup and commissioning follow. This is usually handled by the installation company, which also familiarizes you with how to use the system.
The technician will program the desired temperature for each zone separately, as well as the heating schedule. You can, of course, change the temperature at any time afterward.
Zoned heating control brings a number of advantages. Heat smartly and cheaply, and set the temperature for each room individually.
