If you are looking for a pump to draw water from a well, you have two options: a submersible pump, which you install in the well, and a self-priming domestic water pump, which you install on the surface.
But how do you choose between them and what should you watch out for?
If your well is deeper than 7 metres, you will definitely need a submersible pump. Self-priming surface pumps are realistically capable of drawing and pumping water from a maximum of 8 metres. This characteristic is determined by the laws of physics. For shallow wells, you can use surface self-priming pumps. You will have better access to them in case of maintenance.
You also need to consider the distance of the well from the house and the possibility of connecting the pump to the electrical network. Submersible pumps need to be supplemented with a control unit and/or a pressure tank. The accessories also need their own space and room. In the case of choosing a Grundfos SBA submersible pump, you get a pump with an already integrated control unit. In the case of dry installation on the surface, the pump can be placed inside the house or outside. For outdoor installation, the pump needs to be protected from frost and prevent the water in the pump and pipes from freezing.
A domestic water pump or a pump placed on the surface can be noisy. Therefore, we recommend choosing the SCALA2 water pump, whose noise level is only 47 dB. Domestic water pumps JP PT and JP PM should be placed further away from the residential parts of the house. Submersible pumps are submerged in the pumped water, so you will not hear their operation.
You always have easy access to operate a self-priming domestic water pump. A submersible pump needs to be pulled out of the well, including cables, hoses, etc., for maintenance and inspection. The accessories for the submersible pump also need to be maintained and checked.
