How to Choose a Boiler Pump?

Boiler pumps are a unique group of circulation pumps for heating, which are part of boilers. Typically, boiler manufacturers have these pumps custom-made exclusively for their products. They are used to ensure the circulation of water in heating systems or for the circulation of domestic hot water (DHW). Therefore, boiler pumps are always spare parts for the boiler. It can sometimes be challenging to determine which pump to replace the one in your boiler with. Sometimes it is easier to replace just the motor head of the pump rather than the entire pump.

Description of the Grundfos Pump

  1. UPS - type of pump, connection, and hydroblock UPS, UPSAO, UP
  2. The number indicates the pump connection 15 = DN15, 25 = DN25
  3. Pump head 65 = 6.5m, 50 = 5m, 40 = 4m
  4. IP protection class
  5. Maximum medium temperature
  6. Insulation class
  7. Maximum operating pressure
  8. Consumption according to pump speed
  9. Pump manufacturer's logo
  10. The letter indicates the type of hydroblock, the number indicates the connection spacing
  11. Product number
  12. Operating voltage
  13. Direction of the control plug or direction of impeller rotation

The pump label description is always unique. The label alone cannot definitively determine the type of replacement motor head for the pump. To correctly select the motor head of the pump, it is necessary to measure the diameter of the impeller.

When using the pump in a gas boiler, it is necessary to verify the setting of the speed controller. The speed controller should be switched to the highest level.

Electrical Connection of the Pump and Start Capacitor

Boiler pumps are connected to the power supply using a terminal block. The connection is to a standard single-phase electrical network of 230V AC. The cable wires must be adhered to according to the terminal block symbols.
