How to pick a boiler pump?

Boiler pumps are a unique group of circulating heating pumps that are part of boilers. As a rule, these pumps are custom made for manufacturers only for their products. They are used to ensure the supply of water in heating systems or for the circulation of DHW. Boiler pumps are therefore always spare parts for the specific boiler. It can sometimes be difficult to find the correct replacement for your boiler. Sometimes it may be easier to replace only the pump head than the entire pump.

Grundfos pump description

1. UPS - type of pump, connection and hydroblock UPS, UPSAO, UP
2. This number indicates the connection dimension of the pump 15 = DN15, 25 = DN25
3. Head 65 = 6.5 m, 50 = 5 m, 40 = 4 m
4. IP protection class
5. Maximum temperature
6. Insulation class
7. Maximum pressure
8. Consumption according to pump speed
9. Manufacturer logo
10. The letter indicates the type of hydroblock, the number indicates the connection spacing
11. Product number
12. Voltage
13. Direction of release of the control seal or direction of rotation of the impeller

The label is always unique. Type of spare pump head cannot be clearly determine from it. It is the diameter of the impeller that must be measured to select the correct pumo head.

For the pump in a gas boiler, the setting of a speed controller must be checked. The speed controller should be set to the highest gear.

Power connection and starting capacitor

Boiler pumps are connected to the power supply with a terminal block to a standard single-phase 230V AC mains. Cable cores must be connected according to the terminal block symbols.
