This case study compares a system controlled according to room demand with Danfoss Icon2™ with a system controlled by ECL weather-compensated regulation. The testing was conducted in 2023 by Danfoss.

System Controlled by ECL Weather-Compensated Regulation

ECL weather-compensated regulation controls the temperature of the heating water using a heating curve (between 38 and 44 °C). Room heating is controlled by standard room thermostats for a testing period of 60 hours.

Thermostat Behaviour (e.g., Room 1): 

• 4-hour ON cycle to reach the set value
• 1.5 - 2°C overheating after 2 hours

System Controlled According to Room Demand with Danfoss Icon2™ 

Danfoss ICON controls the flow temperature according to room demand (between 38 and 44 °C). Room heating is controlled by Danfoss ICON 24V room thermostats (self-learning and automatic balancing enabled) for a testing period of 60 hours.

Thermostat Behaviour (Room 1): 

• 20-minute ON cycles to reach the set value
• max. 0.2°C overheating throughout
