Understanding ZigBee Signal Strength Values

After the May 2024 application update, it is possible to display the ZigBee signal strength for individual elements of the Siemens Connected Home system at any given moment. This value can fluctuate over time, but to simplify, if the ZigBee signal strength is over 100, it indicates a sufficiently strong ZigBee connection. Conversely, if the signal strength is below 50, there is a risk of occasional disconnection of the system element and other issues. In such a case, it is definitely worth considering purchasing a ZigBee signal repeater. Either the wireless relay switching unit RCR110.02ZB or the smart plug SCH030 can be used as a signal repeater.

Current range and meanings of ZigBee signal strength values defined in the mobile application:

• Very strong signal (3): 149-255
• Strong signal (2): 100-149
• Weak signal (1): 50-99
• Very weak signal (0): 0-49

Installation of an Extensive ZigBee Network System

When installing the system and creating a ZigBee network, we recommend ensuring its stability by proceeding as follows:

1. Install devices in the building:
   • Mount switching units / signal repeaters: approximately one every 15 m, and/or at least one per floor.
   • Mount SSA911.02ZB actuators on radiator valves.
2. Start connecting the devices:

• Turn on and connect switching units, starting from the nearest to the ZigBee router to the furthest.

• Turn on the power and connect radiator actuators and thermostats, starting from the furthest from the ZigBee router to the nearest.

If the end device does not connect to the ZigBee router in the mobile application, it may be necessary to add another switching unit between the device and the ZigBee router to function as a signal repeater.
