The Honeywell Thera-2 thermostatic head is suitable for all thermostatic valve bodies (TRV). In combination with TRV bodies, they regulate room temperature by adjusting the flow of heating water into heating systems. TRVs are installed in water heating systems at the inlet or (less commonly) at the outlet of radiators or other heating systems. The Thera-2 thermostatic head is supplied with either a built-in or separate temperature sensor. A separate sensor is recommended if the thermostatic head cannot be freely accessed by room air flow.

Along with specially designed valves, thermostatic valves are used in cooling water systems to regulate individual cooling circuits. Regulators of this type comply with the European standard EN215 when used with certain types of TRV bodies. Thermostatic heads of this type with M30 × 1.5 connection threading are suitable for all Honeywell TRV bodies and radiator inlets, all Honeywell M series valves, and also for Danfoss RS type connections.
