In a time of record energy prices, it probably comes as no surprise that most Czechs are looking for ways to save on heating costs. Besides the smart thermostat, which is very popular today, this article will explore other ways to pay as little as possible for heating.
Thermostats are an integral part of many Czech households, where they simplify and streamline the regulation of the heating system. Traditional thermostats allow you to set the heating temperature permanently. Smart thermostats, on the other hand, allow you to control the heating in your home practically anytime and from anywhere via a tablet, computer, or mobile phone.
Smart thermostats can therefore set the temperature in an apartment or house based on your daily routine and are often equipped with a number of smart sensors, which make the use of heat even more efficient.
The smart zoning heating system Honeywell Evohome regulates heat supply to individual rooms based on the desired temperature and analyses data, to make your household even more economical. The Honeywell Evohome smart heating system allows you to control the temperature in up to 12 zones, works with all common heat sources, and is suitable for both family homes and apartments as well as smaller commercial spaces.

What else besides a smart thermostat should you get for your radiator to heat your home efficiently? Magnetic filters for heating, for example, can be very useful. What are they for?
Magnetic filters protect the heating system from damage caused by mechanical impurities, which reduce the performance of the heating system, increase energy consumption, damage system components, and ultimately lead to a reduction in their lifespan.
A perfect overview of energy consumption is also offered by heat and cold meters, which facilitate the data collection process.
There are other technologies leading to savings on heating costs. There is increasing interest in photovoltaics. Key advantages of photovoltaics include energy self-sufficiency for a large part of the year, reduced dependence on energy supplies, reduced energy demand for both family and apartment buildings, as well as the long lifespan of solar panels and relatively quick return on investment.
Rekuperation, or heat recovery, is also popular. Thanks to rekuperation, stale air is exchanged for fresh outside air, which is heated by the thermal energy from the waste air. In addition to saving money, rekuperation also improves the air quality in the home.
We have prepared a few more useful tips and expert recommendations to help you significantly reduce your heating bill.
When it comes to heating, every extra degree means a noticeably higher energy consumption. Lowering the room temperature by just 1 °C can reduce energy consumption by up to 6 percent. Keep this in mind when setting the temperature in your home. Experts recommend maintaining a temperature between 20 and 22 °C in living rooms. However, you don't need the same temperature in every room. A lower temperature can be maintained in the bedroom, for example, where it should be around 16 °C, or in the hallway. The mentioned smart heating can maintain the correct temperature in individual rooms.
Lowering the room temperature by just 1 °C can save you up to 6 percent in energy.
Do you want to keep your home pleasantly warm, but have the windows open all day on tilt? In that case, you are losing precious heat. Ideally, you should ventilate briefly but thoroughly. This means opening the windows wide and ventilating for about 10 minutes.
If you have air in your heating system, the radiators do not work at full capacity, and to achieve the desired thermal comfort, you need to increase consumption. How can you tell if your heating system is airlocked? By the fact that part of the radiator remains cooler, or even completely cold. Another clear sign of air in the system is gurgling sounds from the radiators.
Another proven way to save on heating is to remove obstacles that prevent the radiator from heating fully. Clean the radiators of dust and do not cover them with long curtains or drapes. The efficiency of the heating is also reduced if you dry clothes on the radiator.
Energy can only be used efficiently if you maintain the heating equipment. Regular maintenance ensures reliable operation of the heating system and extends its lifespan. Did you know that statistics show that up to 60% of heating equipment in the Czech Republic is not regularly maintained?
