Mixing valves

Mixing valves are used to control water temperature by mixing hot and cold water. You can find three-way and four-way mixing valves, including actuators on our site. Then also assembly kits for the installation of actuators, as well as renovation kits, seals and other spare parts.

They are used to achieve the desired water temperature. For example, in domestic hot water distribution, the temperature of the liquid leaving the boiler nowadays exceeds 60°C. However, in order to reduce the risk of scalding, the mixing valve can be used to mix the hot water with cold water and thus achieve the optimum temperature in the system. The valve can be regulated either by means of a thermostatic cartridge, by an actuator, or manually.

Wide range of use covers everything from heating applications, cooling, underfloor heating, solar systems, ventilation, central distribution, to hot and drinking water.

With the exception of the 3F and 4F cast iron series, the mixing valves are made of highly resistant brass, which is, among other things, treated against zinc loss. Thanks to this, they can be used in heating and cooling distribution.

In our range you will find products of the Swedish manufacturer ESBE - the recall of these products is less than 0.05%.

How to choose thermostatic mixing valves?

They are divided into three-way and four-way valves according to the connection and purpose of the valve or the entire system. Then it is necessary to take into account whether you want one with simpler manual control or an electronic one, equipped with the actuator. For some types of valves we can supply you with a kit for the electric actuator. A separate category are thermostatic mixing valves. Questions about their purchase and operation are addressed here.

Are all mixing valves thermostatic?

They are not - as mentioned above, we also offer valves operated manually or by an actuator. However, all thermostatic valves are also mixing. For example, the VRG series is mixing but not thermostatic, mixing takes place using an orifice (quarter-ball and half-ball) inside the valve, where hot and cold water are mechanically mixed.

In contrast, in the VTA series, mixing takes place by means of a thermostatic cartridge, where hot water is opened and closed by thermal expansion. Cartridges can be changed and you will find them on our site.

Three-way mixing valves

The use of three-way mixing valves has a very wide range. They are used for distribution and regulation of hot water, as they provide mixed water of the required temperature. Another usage is in underfloor heating, central distribution, solar systems, and in distribution and installation of cooling, ventilation and air conditioning systems. In addition to the mixing function, some types of three-way mixing valves can also be used as diverting or switching valves.

The connection is solved by means of external or internal threads, there are also versions with a flanged connection.

Controlling three-way mixing valves

Three-way mixing valves are controlled either by a manually adjustable knob, or in sophisticated systems  by a central control system and actuator. They ensure quick adjustment of valve parameters according to current needs, thus minimizing energy losses.

For actuators it is necessary to use a suitable adapter, which of course is available on our site. You can get a complete mounting kit, which consists of a profiled sheet, mandrel and fixing screw. Belimo actuators or ESBE actuators can be used.

Differences between product lines

VRG130 is used to mix the outlet hot water to the required temperature. For example, solid fuel boilers produce very hot water. That is why mixing valve mixes it with cold water so the water of correct parameters flows into the radiators.

VRG1/VRG132 differ by connecting thread - internal/external. The connection dimension is the distinguishing parameter.

VRG 230 are diverting or switching valves used for switching between circuits - for example between heating and storage.

VRG231/232 differ by connecting thread - internal/external. Distinguishing parameter is the size of the valve, ie the dimension of the connection.

Whole VRG series can be motorized using the ESBE ARA series of actuators for DN 15-50, for the DN 50-150 series the ESBE 92 / ESBE 95 actuators

Older series of mixing valves replacements

The 3MG, 4MG, 3G and 4G series have been replaced by the newer VRG 130/140 series. If you do not want to disassemble the older valve, we offer a wide range of ESBE renovation sets. At the same time, we are able to motorize older valves.

Four-way mixing valves

Modern four-way mixing valves prove to be excellent in heating applications, distribution and mixing systems. The valve body is most often made of brass and thus guarantees high quality and long durability of the product thanks to the protective processing used against dezincification.

These valves generally find their place especially in heating and cooling systems, their double mixing function makes it possible to mix part of the hot water that is supplied from the boiler to the return water from the radiator circuit. This ensures a higher temperature of the water entering the boiler and thus protects the boiler against low-temperature corrosion.

Controlling the four-way mixing valves

The four-way mixing valve is equipped with a non-slip knob with a scale. The range of rotation for these types of valves is "round and round", ie. they have no end stops. The scale can be adjusted to any position as needed.

If you want to control the mixing valve via an actuator, the valve can be adapted by simply mounting the corresponding adapter. In addition to ESBE actuators, Belimo actuators can also be used for most types.

The connection of the four-way mixing valves to the circuit is made by an internal or external thread on the valve body, or you can choose a flange variant. The body of the flanged mixing valve is made of gray cast iron.

We recommend that you always replace the seal sets with new ones after disassembly.

We offer a wide selection of four-way valves from the reliable manufacturer ESBE.

Differences between product lines

VRB140 are used for bivalent mixing, they can be motorized.

4F are designed for heating systems, they are equipped with a PN6 flange.

Replacements of older series of mixing valves

Older series 3MG, 4MG, 3G and 4G were replaced by newer series VRG 130 and VRG 140. Older valves are cast iron or brass. Cast iron is used in the 3G, 4G, 3F and 4F series, brass in the 3MG, 4MG, 5MG series.

If you do not want to remove the older valve, there are a number of renovation kits. At the same time, we are able to motorize older valves. Renovation kits include a valve heart, sealing rings, a spare scale and a control knob.
