Circulation Pumps for Domestic Hot Water

Circulation pumps for domestic hot water (DHW) are particularly useful in places where the user needs hot water without losses and the need to unnecessarily run off cold water. They are especially suitable for single- and two-generation homes where the hot water source is further from the point of use, causing the water to cool in the pipes.

Waiting for hot water can be not only frustrating but also highly unecological and uneconomical. For example, if you wait ten seconds every time you turn on the hot water tap for the liquid to reach the desired temperature, you will unnecessarily let almost 3,000 litres of water flow away over the course of a year. You can easily calculate the losses in your household on the Grundfos website.

For greater comfort and to reduce unnecessary waste, we recommend installing a circulation pump for DHW. This pump forces the water back to the boiler through the circulation pipes and reintroduces reheated liquid into the system, which is always immediately available at the point of use.

Unlike most common circulation pumps for heating, pumps for DHW are certified for drinking water. Thanks to their unique design, they are also adapted to pump water with a higher degree of hardness. They are therefore useful in regions where sediment formation could otherwise cause problems.

The operation of an electronic circulation pump is powered by a reliable and practically silent electric motor with minimal power consumption. Its consumption usually ranges from 2 - 5 W. The synchronous motor is also resistant to blocking, these wet-running pumps also meet the highest hygiene standards and are characterized by long service life. They are also corrosion-resistant and can be used for pumping other liquids if necessary.

How to Choose a Circulation Pump for DHW?

The key parameter for selecting a pump for DHW is water consumption and the number of draw-off points, which cause pressure losses in the system. The flow rate, i.e., the pump's ability to transfer a certain amount of liquid in a given time - usually an hour, should correspond to this.

It is also important to decide how the pump will be controlled. Products for DHW circulation are divided into ON/OFF pumps, which are connected via a timer directly into the socket, without further regulation (for example, UP 15-14B).

In our offer, you will also find a smart pump with the AUTOADAPT function, which learns according to the application and draw-off regime. This is ideal for objects with regular operation (for example, UP 15-14BA).

The last option is smart pumps supplemented with timing (for example, STAR Z-T).

How to Distinguish Product Lines:

Due to the quality and longevity of the products, we only offer circulation pumps from proven manufacturers: Grundfos is a traditional Danish manufacturer, while Wilo is a German specialist that manufactures most of its products in domestic factories. Based on our experience, the complaint rate for products from both manufacturers is below 1 percent of units sold.

Grundfos:

  • The COMFORT UP series are smaller household pumps with an impeller made of corrosion-resistant steel,
  • The ALPHA N series is a stainless steel version with an ON/OFF control system,
  • The UPS N / MAGNA N series are pumps in a stainless steel version for larger applications.

Wilo:

  • The Star-Z NOVA series are smaller household pumps,
  • The TOP-Z series for larger applications with an ON/OFF control system.

For smaller applications, we recommend purchasing a backup power source for pumps, which ensures the supply of hot water in case of a power outage.

If you are unsure about choosing the right pump for your application, we are happy to advise you.

  • Impeller made of stainless steel.
  • Approved for drinking water operation.
  • Simple power connection via cable.
  • Dry run detection.
